Everyone wonders what their lives would be like if they had chosen a different path. In the short film The Holomover, this cerebral pondering is externalized and made tangible.
Brian, a conflicted twenty-something struggling with self-definition, discovers he has the ability to travel to parallel universes. Unhappy with his own life and seeking guidance from what he determines to be the more successful versions of himself, Brian comes to find that every Brian – from the overly-optimistic and fanatical physicist to the staunchly dedicated musician - has their own measure and level of success, goals, and aspirations, and each divulges their advice to Brian on how he might find some answers.
But Brian is growing weary of his travels, and is beginning to believe that maybe he’s doomed to a worthless existence, until he meets Frank the Jumper Hunter - a hard-nosed detective-type that’s done a bit too much traveling in the multiverse for his own good.
After informing Brian that he’s being monitored by some mysterious entity that he refers to as The Council, Frank proceeds to warn Brian that he is in danger of becoming a Dark Mover – Holomovers that use their abilities for malevolent purposes – and that he better watch his step. But what does this all mean? How does it help Brian in his quest for purpose? Can Brian find the answers he’s looking for from Frank? Maybe his self-obsessed perspective needs to be expanded, as Frank suggests, to see the bigger picture..
