Short Film
"Corner Delancey" US 2008 - Thursday, Oct 30, 6:30pm
Dir: Neil Needleman

Like many works of fiction, this story has its roots in reality. Actually, several realities: Events and situations that involve a few people I know. The main character in this video, the narrator, is based on two people, both of whom are enormously talented artists.
One is my buddy Herb, an illustrator I've known since 1981. Herb always travels with a sketchbook, and many events in his life have found their way into his illustrations. His wonderful sketches of Prague provided the visuals for our previous video collaboration, A Trip to Prague.
The other gentleman who inspired the story and character in this video is my friend David's father - an artist who specialized in Judaica, and who, sadly, has Alzheimer's.
One day, I received an email from David informing me about his new blog dedicated to his father. I immediately opened the blog and read all the entries. Shortly after that, I heard a news report about a 50-year-old man who had been diagnosed with a rare condition I never knew existed: Early-Onset Alzheimer's.
This sent a chill down my spine because I'm 50 years old and I've been having a hard time remembering certain things. I then began to wonder about David and his dad: What would happen if the roles were reversed?
These various people and situations came together to form the story I call Corner Delancey. So, even though this is a work of fiction, it's also very real.
