"Burma - All Inclusive" Myanmar / Austria 2008 - Friday, Oct 31, 8:30pm

The semi-documentary film Burma All Inclusive describes the situation in a country which has, for a long time been isolated from the outside world, but which is now slowly opening up to tourism.
Burma offers everything which travel agents and their customers dream of: spirituality and the exotic, coupled with a pristine condition and the Asian joie de vivre. All too often, however, mention is not made of the fact that the lion's share of tourist dollars finds its way into the pockets of precisely those who have taken this country hostage: the generals. Aungsan Suu Kyi says that "Burma will still be there when the generals have finally gone" and we would be best advised not to visit the country at all under the current circumstances.
However there is no going back now that Burma has found its place into the travel agents' catalogues. This is the starting point for the film. Through a fictitious "All inclusive" journey it sheds light on the country from all possible and impossible perspectives. Western tourist behaviour meets with the harsh reality of everyday Burmese life.
The search for the truth is often willingly suppressed: the film brings another take on "All inclusive". Hardly anyone dares to criticise the regime in Burma, the fear of prosecution, torture and arrest is too great. For this reason, with a few exceptions, the interviewees preferred to remain anonymous or were replaced by imaginary figures that enact real circumstances in a fictitious story.
